Trilogy Technologies is participating in Tech/Life Ireland, a new initiative to attract technology talent to Ireland. Caio Gomes, a Systems Engineer from Brazil now working with us, participated enthusiastically in the initiative by sharing his experience in a series of interviews.
I participated in a panel discussion at the industry and media launch on 27th June. Representatives from the tech industry, the tech community, media and government including the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, attended.
Newstalk’s Chris Donoghue was the MC for the session posing questions to industry representatives including myself and the Chief Executives of Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland. Topics were based around Ireland as a place to pursue a career in tech and the importance of attracting top tech talent from overseas as well as experiences of moving to Ireland for a tech career.
Here’s an excerpt from Caio’s interview:
Arriving fresh from Rio de Janeiro in 2010, Caio took an unusual route into the tech industry. He reveals: “When I first came over, I studied English & Business for three years. I worked in a bar at the time and one of my best friends from there invited me to spend Christmas with his family.”
An avid fan of technology since his childhood, Caio’s natural aptitude for solving tech issues prompted an unexpected job offer. He laughs: “I love computers and have always been the repair guy in my family! When I was at my friend’s house, I helped out by fixing their computer. My friend’s brother-in-law was there too. He works for a tech firm and spotted that I could solve tech issues. He asked if I wanted to do an internship with his company, so I went for it.”
